In Apeldoorn, several thousand people took part in a demonstration against the corona measures. The participants walked a six-kilometer tour through the city.
Many people had yellow umbrellas with them. They didn’t or hardly kept their distance and mouth caps were rare. The protesters had on their clothes and banners texts such as “Freedom means choosing yourself” and “Where have the flu deaths gone?”.
The demonstration was organized by the action group ‘for human connection’ Police For Freedom Netherlands. The group is very concerned about the consequences of the corona measures and says it will stand up “for the preservation of fundamental rights”. Some of the protesters have doubts about the vaccination campaign.
The action group has organized similar marches before, but today’s walk in Apeldoorn is the first for which the organization had received official permission. Mayor Heerts said at Omroep Gelderland that demonstrating is a fundamental right.
There was a lot of police, including riot police, but the demonstration was peaceful. On May 8, a similar protest in Barneveld got out of hand. Some protesters turned against the police when they were not allowed to enter the center of the village. There were heavy blows from time to time.
