UEFA withdraws fines against Super League rebels | Sport

European football association UEFA is temporarily withdrawing all sanctions against the rebellious Super League clubs Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid. The clubs will not be fined because a court in Madrid had ruled that the governing body of European football could not sanction the rebel clubs.

UEFA had launched an investigation against the three clubs, but in June it suspended the proceedings after being notified by the Swiss authorities of a court order from the Madrid Commercial Court obtained by the legal entity European Super League Company. SL.

UEFA’s final step was to annul the proceedings. “Following the suspension of proceedings against FC Barcelona, Juventus FC and Real Madrid in the case regarding a possible violation of UEFA’s legal framework in connection with the so-called Super League, the UEFA Appellate Body has today issued the proceedings were declared void as if proceedings had never been opened,” UEFA said in a statement.

Twelve clubs announced in April the creation of a more or less closed competition, the Super League. It received so much criticism from the football world that nine clubs withdrew from the project within a few days under great pressure. Only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus are still officially involved.
