Ukraine has signed an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 22 aircraft. The fleet is part of a government plan to create a new national airline. Financial details have not been disclosed.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky found at the start of the coronavirus crisis that his country relied too much on private companies for repatriating Ukrainians. That’s why he came up with plans for a state airline.
The new airline will have to compete with Ukraine International Airlines, which is owned by billionaire Igor Kolomoisky. The airline’s fleet consists mainly of Boeing aircraft.
