Undercover images: pigs and cows beaten in Epe . slaughterhouse

New undercover images from a large slaughterhouse in Epe show pigs and cows being electrified and beaten. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has viewed the images and intervenes at the slaughterhouse, the organization says in response to images at RTL Nieuws.

An employee of the animal rights organization Varkens in Nood worked undercover for twenty days at the Gosschalk slaughterhouse. Up to 5000 pigs and 600 cattle are slaughtered there per day. He secretly made images of abuses, such as the frequent distribution of electric shocks and beating animals with paddles.

The images also show that his colleagues in the slaughterhouse are trying to hide the violations from the NVWA, which is present with camera surveillance and at set times with a veterinarian. Pigs in Need files a complaint against the slaughterhouse.
