Universities cut tuition fees for Ukrainians

The universities in our country are going to charge Ukrainian refugee students for the coming academic year less tuition fees than the amount that is normal for students from outside the European Economic Region. They have to pay 2209 euros, just the amount legally required to ask.

“It is important to quickly provide certainty to aspiring students who have fled Ukraine, precisely because they are in such an uncertain situation about their future,” says chairman Pieter Duisenberg.

Universities actually think that offering a reduced rate for this group of students is a responsibility of the national government, but have decided “for the time being, to avoid unacceptable situations” to lower the tuition fees for this group of students themselves.

The universities have asked the ministries of Education, Culture and Science and SZW whether they can provide Ukrainian students with living allowance “since this is not the responsibility of universities”.
