The events sector is taking to the streets again after the lack of a response from the government to last Saturday’s national demonstration. Under the name Unmute Us, the industry will again gather in various cities on September 11, the organization announced on Friday.
After the demonstration on August 21, in which at least 70,000 people took part, according to the organization, the partnership is still waiting for a substantive response from The Hague. More than 2000 festival and event organizers, event locations and suppliers joined the protest, such as Lowlands, DGTL and North Sea Jazz. Protesters took to the streets in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Eindhoven and Nijmegen.
There was no response from politicians in The Hague to the protests, much to the frustration of the organization of Unmute Us. Today the action group places a letter online. “We understand this is your vacation, but it would be a matter of decency if you speak to us – the 100,000 event industry employees, the tens of thousands of protesters and the thousands of protesting companies – as soon as possible,” said Unmute Us. According to them, the logic is hard to find because other major events such as Formula 1 in Zandvoort are allowed to continue.
As a result, the organization feels compelled to announce a new demonstration, ,,The fact that nothing more than an invitation to a meeting comes out of the ivory tower is seen as a sign of weakness, which shows that they do not have the answers either. This strengthens our belief that this policy is based on arbitrariness,” the organization said. “We continue to fight for reopening and announce new demonstrations on September 11 and call on everyone to join us in the streets.”
The cities in which demonstrations will take place on September 11 will be announced later.
