Michael Valgren has won the 93rd edition of the Tour of Tuscany. The Dane from EF Education-Nippo arrived solo after 191.6 kilometers with start and finish in Pontedera.
Behind him, Italian Alessandro De Marchi finished second ahead of compatriot Diego Ulissi by more than a minute. It is Valgren’s first win since his 2018 Amstel Gold Race win.
After many riders had tried to break away on the second climb of the more than 8 kilometers long Monte Serra, Valgren attacked at about 14 kilometers from the finish from a group in which his team of three riders was represented. He immediately made a good hole and came alone with a large lead.
On the honor roll, Valgren succeeds Colombian Fernando Gaviria.
