Van Kalmthout after prestigious victory: ‘It was a perfect day’

“This victory was not even unexpected, because I knew I had the car to do it. It was so fast. That’s why I am so happy for the team and grateful. Without the guys from the team it would never have been possible”, said the driver of Ed Carpenter Racing after the victory march in his Chevrolet.

At 20 years old, Van Kalmthout can call himself one of the youngest winners ever in the IndyCar. Only five drivers were younger when they won a race. He made a striking debut in the American racing series last year and finished the season as the best freshman (rookie).

Indy 500

The famous Indy 500 will be held in two weeks. Arie Luyendijk, example and mentor of VeeKay, gained fame in our country by winning that competition in 1990 and 1997. Van Kalmthout was able to qualify fourth for the Indy 500 last year, but a failed pit stop broke him up in the race.
