At 20 years old, Van Kalmthout can call himself one of the youngest winners ever in the IndyCar. Only five drivers were younger when they won a race. He made a striking debut in the American racing series last year and finished the season as the best freshman (rookie).
The famous Indy 500 will be held in two weeks. Arie Luyendijk, example and mentor of VeeKay, gained fame in our country by winning that competition in 1990 and 1997. Van Kalmthout was able to qualify fourth for the Indy 500 last year, but a failed pit stop broke him up in the race.
