videoRinus ‘Veekay’ van Kalmthout has rewarded a strong race in the IndyCar Series with a second place. During the hectic race in Detroit, he finally had to put up with winner Marcus Ericsson.
The twenty-year-old driver of Ed Carpenter Racing thus conquered his third podium place in the American racing class. Last year, in his debut season, he took third place at the Indianapolis Grand Prix. He won that race on May 15 of this year. In Detroit, the Hooddorper eventually finished in second place. For a long time he seemed to have to settle for third place, but shortly after the restart he managed to gain another spot.
The race was temporarily halted after a hair-raising crash by Felix Rosenqvist. The 29-year-old Swede hit the tire stack hard. After the break, Rosenqvist saw ‘Veekay’ move into second place. The Dutchman currently occupies the handsome fifth place in the IndyCar season. The leader of the ranking is the Spaniard Alex Palou.
