La Sirene is the latest project from visual artist and curator Richard Kofi and choreographer and dancer Junadry Leocaria. With water as a central theme, we are looking for dancers, performers and visual his artists from a variety of styles and backgrounds who seek to fuse Richard and Junadry’s style with our own. A dance performance will be held from February 6th.^th -February 8^th2023, the exhibition will be on display at the Erasmus House until May 14^th2023.

About La Sirene

The ocean is an endless archive of secrets from our past. Many communities around the world that depend on the sea for their livelihoods and economies share myths about the hidden wisdom of the underwater world. The title “La Sirène” refers to a mythical being in the Caribbean Sea who appears as a beautiful woman with a tale of fish. are the keepers of. Leokaria and Kofi explore how the (hi) stories of Indonesia, West Africa, the Netherlands and the Caribbean ebb and flow with each other through dance, visual arts and collaborations with local creators.

About the artist

Junadry Leokalia (Willemstad, 1985) An eye-catching appearance in the Dutch urban dance theater scene. She has developed her own style by combining her contemporary dance with her Waacking and her Caribbean tambu. Her knowledge of the Caribbean’s non-material heritage plays a large role in her storytelling and aesthetics.

artist and curator Richard Coffey (Wageningen, 1988) creates drawings, collages and video works that intertwine abstract and metaphorical realities. This allows him to uncover how the past, present and future share information with each other. Collaboration and co-creation play an important role in Kofi’s practice.

Application guidelines

Participants must be available from 9th January^th ～February 5^th, 2023. The preparation/rehearsal period also includes interdisciplinary meetings and conversations at the Communitas Salihara residence. Dance performances will be held from February 6th to February 8th.

Special requirements for dancers:

For the dance audition, she has to learn the choreography from Junadry and prepare an additional two-minute solo.

If you can dance more than one style, be sure to indicate that during your audition. Round out the audition day with some challenges to see how you perform in the group.

Dancers are also expected to meet the following requirements:

• 16+
• You are an aspiring and passionate dancer who is willing to work hard to create beautiful pieces.
• I need to prepare a 2 minute solo. In this solo you will show your skills as a dancer.
• Available from 10th January^th Until February 12th^th2023
• Available during the day and/or night
• live in Jakarta metropolitan area

All dance styles are welcome: street & club style, contemporary, classical ballet, traditional dance, acrobatics and more.

Specific requirements for visual artists:

You must be motivated, creative, and able to think outside the box. He will also work hard to make La Sirene a huge success. Please submit a digital link for your artwork via the Google form at the end of this page.

reward

Each selected dancer/visual artist will receive an honorarium of IDR 5.000.000 per person for their contributions (2 performances included). In addition to this, they each receive a daily allowance of IDR 100.000 per her day. Meals, per diem and honorarium are provided by Communitas Sarihara.
