Picnic will only deliver fresh chicken with at least one Beter Leven star from the Animal Protection from Saturday, reports Wakker Dier. According to Wakker Dier, the online supermarket and delivery service is the first to achieve this for fresh chicken meat. Their chicken meats will get a star later this year.
According to Wakker Dier, Picnic is taking a different route than traditional supermarkets. They have mainly taken steps when it comes to meat products, but are still working on quality marks for products made from fresh chicken meat, such as chicken fillets, chicken cutlets or drumsticks.
According to Wakker Dier, all Dutch supermarkets promised last year to provide their chicken meat and meat products with at least one Beter Leven star. This should be done by 2023 at the latest and for some in the course of 2022.
According to Wakker Dier, chickens with one Better Life star get more space and daylight in the barn. “They grow more slowly, at a healthier rate. The animals can go outside in a covered run, with fresh air and space to forage,” according to the organization.
