Amateur club Spakenburg knock Eredivisie FC Utrecht out of the Dutch Cup

Amateur football club SV Spakenburg beat FC Utrecht 1-4 at de Galgenwaard in Utrecht to reach the semi-finals against KNVB Beker. Spakenburg beat FC Groningen in the final round to beat another Eredivisie his side. They will find out who they face in the next round on Saturday.

FC Utrecht were without their manager for the match due to Michael Silberbauer’s illness. From 3,500 he 4,000 Spakenberg fans headed to Utrecht to support the team.

Spakenburg got off to a good start and were rewarded with a beautiful goal from Wimilio Vink. FC Utrecht goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas missed an opportunity with Vink’s volley.

FC Utrecht were disallowed after 52 minutes of VAR checks. Anastasios Douvikas’ header was ruled out. Spakenberg scored twice in the 59th minute. His Luuk Admiraal, who found his ball through beautifully, strode it before rolling it into the Utrecht net.

An incredible win for the team and they will wait for Saturday night’s draw to determine who they will face in the semifinals. Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord are potential opponents if they win in the quarter-finals this week.
