Zhang beats Olympic champion Hashimoto by 0.017 difference in all-around final

Zhang Boheng surprisingly won gold in the all-around final at the World Gymnastics Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan. The Chinese gymnast was just a little better than towering favorite Daiki Hashimoto after six events (floor, vaulting, rings, jump, bridge and rack): 87,981 points to 87,964 points.

Zhang was not allowed to go to the Olympics last summer because, according to the Chinese national coach, he was not yet stable enough. In his first final at a major tournament, he made a mistake on vaulting, but Hashimoto also fell off the horse.

Small difference

In the final stretch, Hashimoto, Olympic champion on rack and in the all-around, had to make up for a difference of 0.350 points, but that was just not possible due to a small hop at the dismount.
