2 Dutch killed, 12 injured after bus crash in Ecuador
Two Dutch tourists were killed and 12 injured when two buses collided in southeastern Ecuador, officials and media said.
“Two Dutch nationals died in a tragic bus accident in Tena, Ecuador on Sunday night,” the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter.
The ministry said the two victims, a 74-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man, were both from near Amsterdam.

Of the dozen injured people taken to hospital in Tena, two are in serious condition, medical facility director Fabian Chango told reporters.
Ecuador’s emergency services said paramedics treated 19 Dutch nationals aged 41 to 75 and one Ecuadorian.
Police officer Hugo Amores said the accident occurred on a road between Tena and Baeza in the province of Napo, more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) southeast of Quito.
Road accidents are one of the leading causes of death in Ecuador.
2,131 road deaths will be recorded in 2021, approaching the 2014 record of 2,322.
Nearly 1,500 people have died in traffic accidents so far this year, according to the country’s transport agency.
In July eight people were killed and 20 injured when a bus crashed outside Quito.
