Ad den Hague Appointed Dick Advocaat as New Head Coach

Born and raised in The Hague, Dick Advocaat entered the Youth Academy of ADO Den Haag in 1957. Advocaat went on to play for ADO (and later FC Den Haag) for seven seasons, primarily as a midfielder. His playing career included Roda JC, VVV-Venlo, Chicago He Sting, FC Den He Hague, Sparta He Rotterdam, Berchem He Sport, FC Utrecht, Deindorp He SV and others. At the end of his playing career, Advocaat became a coach.

It’s been 41 years since he first took over as head coach, and in that time, Advocaat has built an impressive resume. He has coached many prestigious clubs both in the Netherlands and abroad, and has also coached the national teams of the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, Iraq, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

Throughout his coaching career, Advocaat has won many awards. He won the Dutch National Championship, Super Cup and KNVB Cup with PSV. Advocaat, nicknamed ‘Little His General’ as his coach at Glasgow Rangers, won all of the domestic awards. One of his highlights of his coaching career was with Zenit he won the UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup with St. Petersburg.

Now, with Advocaat’s appointment as head coach of ADO Den Haag, he has come full circle. “I admit it is very special to be back at ADO Den Haag. This move may come as a surprise to some, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. We are all aware of the current situation at the club and our goals are very clear: at the moment ADO Den Haag need better results. Until the end of the season, I will do everything in my power to aim for the top again.”
