A 39-year-old Colombian man convicted in his home country of the violent rape of a 4-year-old girl was arrested in The Hague on Tuesday. He stayed there for some time, but Dutch police arrested him after the families of two other young children pressed him against charges of child molestation. De Telegraaf report.
The man was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Colombia in 2021, and Colombia issued an international arrest warrant for him. Dutch authorities were unable to arrest the man until a case was filed in the Netherlands, the newspaper said, because the Netherlands does not have an extradition treaty with Colombia.
According to Telegraaf, the family of a 3-year-old Dutch girl alerted police to Christian G’s presence in the Netherlands when they filed a complaint against him for child molestation. The victim’s uncle said the abuse occurred in the spring and said he couldn’t understand why Mr G had not been arrested sooner.
Attorney Richard Korver, representing the family, told The Telegraph that “a lot of effort had to be made to get the judiciary into action.” “Fortunately, the man is currently in custody. We hope he will remain in prison and not be released again in a few days given the risk of his escape.”
“This case is under investigation by the Hague Police’s sexual crimes department. We are unable to provide any further information as the investigation is in full swing,” a spokesperson for The Hague’s Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) told the newspaper.
According to Telegraaf, the second possible victim in the Netherlands is G’s young family. The incident has also been reported to the Hague police.
In 2018, a court in Cali convicted G of violently and repeatedly raping a four-year-old girl over a two-year period. He used to babysit her child. Her parents went to the authorities when her behavior changed and she began complaining of physical ailments.
