The Dutch Embassy in Harare has funded four new projects with local civil society organizations working on environmental and climate change issues.

The project, valued at US$700,000, will run for one year with a focus on sustainable agriculture and the livelihoods of women and youth in rural areas highly impacted by climate change. Dr Margret Verwijk, Dutch Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, said these projects all target a lack of knowledge about climate and environmental issues.

“All partners are working to raise awareness of climate change and build capacity within their communities to deal with its impacts. In particular, sustainable agriculture that supports healthy soils and water retention is being promoted. Communities are informed and empowered to participate in decision-making about local ecosystems and the major role they play in mitigating and adapting to climate change,” said Ambassador Verwijk.
