Dutch in Sudan more than expected, 134 evacuated
The number of Dutch nationals in Sudan with whom the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively in contact has increased to 134.
Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra reported on Friday that 110 Dutch nationals had been contacted. On Thursday, there were 87 Dutch Dutchmen. In Jordan, three planes are ready to evacuate the Dutch as soon as possible. So far this has been very dangerous.
The defense ministry currently sees no reason to send more aircraft, other supplies or personnel to Jordan, a defense ministry spokesman said. Currently, the Ministry of Defense has two C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
The Sudanese military said Saturday it would facilitate the evacuation of civilians and diplomats from the US, UK, France and China. Those countries were specifically named. It is not yet known whether the Sudanese military will allow the evacuation of its compatriots to the Netherlands.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Dutch nationals in Sudan to report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Information Service. In this way, the ministry can “know as accurately as possible who is in the country,” according to the ministry’s website.
