Frost over the weekend, but rain next week
The KNMI Weather Service issued a Code Yellow weather warning for all areas except the Wadden Islands on Friday afternoon, saying icy conditions, light snow and patches of fog will cause road problems overnight.
Several parts of the country, including Enschede and Zwolle, saw light dust on Friday morning, prompting the deployment of grit lorries. Speed limits were also lowered in places due to slippery conditions caused by black ice.
After more frost overnight, Saturday will be a dry day with plenty of sunshine and temperatures near zero. Sunday will be a little warmer with occasional rain, and the night will be freezing again.
However, Monday will see rain in some places with a maximum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, and the situation will be similar for the rest of the week. The KNMI’s long-term forecast is about the same, with only a 30% chance of night frost over the Christmas period.
