Gasunie secures supply of liquefied gas to Eemshaven to reduce Russia’s dependence on gas

EemsEnergyTerminal, a subsidiary of Gasunie, has signed a contract to supply RTV Noord’s Eemshaven with 7 billion cubic meters (bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually. report.

The LNG will be shipped by Czech energy giants CEZ as and Shell Western LNG BV to two new floating terminals installed by Gasunie earlier this year to limit the country’s dependence on Russian energy. At these terminals, the LNG is converted to ‘normal’ gas and pumped into the network. The first shipments are scheduled for August.

The total capacity of the two terminals is 8 billion cubic meters. Gasunie said he plans to shrink his remaining $1 billion over the next few months. Maasvlakte’s new facility and his existing LNG facility will enable the Netherlands to import 24 billion cubic meters of liquefied gas per year. This is double the current amount.

Dutch gas consumption has hovered around 40 billion cubic meters for many years. Less than half of that gas goes to homes and businesses, and the rest is used in industry and power plants. The country has proven reserves equivalent to 18.1 times her annual consumption. A huge gas reservoir spans most of the province of Groningen, but extraction has caused the ground beneath the province to sink, damaging many homes and other property.
