Groningen Market Day arriving with its biggest market to date – The Northern Times
On Tuesday, October 3, Groningen Market Day (Groningen Marktendag) stamps its return with its largest market to date. After hosting it for the first time in 2022, the event organizers ramped up the size and occasion by offering seven markets for locals and tourists to visit.
The Grote Markt, Vismarkt, the bit in between (Tussen Beiden Markten), and other locations throughout the city center will host what is now the largest market in Northern Netherlands. The date was specifically picked as it is a German national holiday, the day of German Unity, allowing those across the border to visit Groningen for this one-day event.
The Groningen City Club, the Municipality of Groningen, and the organizers of the Groningen Market Day among others have all contributed to ensure the market adds a vibrant atmosphere to the bustling city of Groningen. The market will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free to enter.
The largest market in the North offers something for everyone
Groningen Market Day will be spread out throughout the city and offers a range of products to pique everyone’s interest. More than 50 vendors are expected at the venue to create one of the largest flea markets of the year.
Clothes, vinyl records, accessories, books, antiques, and regional items will all be on display but that is just a taste of what the market will offer for visitors. Anything you buy can be stored in the free storage depots at hand so you never have your hands full.
There will also be food trucks near the Akerkhof, live music throughout the area, and even activities for children to enjoy. Everyone who makes their way towards the market can expect to leave with a few new trinkets and the experience of visiting the largest market in the North of the Netherlands.
