Harlingvleet bridge closed for two months, rush hour commute takes an hour
The Haalingvleet Bridge on the A29 motorway will be closed to traffic for eight weeks from Friday evening. The closure is due to extensive maintenance on the bridge. The bridge, along with the parallel roads, will be closed from 10:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. on August 4, infrastructure officials said.
For those with destinations between Zeeland and Goerle-Overflakki in South-Holland, the A15 and N57 are available as detours. To and from Fuchsia World Island can be detoured via the A16 and N217. Drivers do not have to pay to use the Kill Tunnels during the closure period.
Road users should allow for additional travel time in excess of 60 minutes during rush hours.
Since the opening and closing parts of the bridge have reached the end of their technical life, maintenance has already started in 2021. This part is 57 meters long and weighs about 2 million kilograms. The pivot alone weighs 9,000kg.
The Rijksmuseum has replaced sections, movement mechanisms and all technical systems. The process of replacing sections and adjusting them to every position possible takes 10 days around the clock. The renovation is expected to be completed in the fall, after testing of the new technical system is complete.
The Haringvliet Bridge connects the provinces of Fukse Ward and Goele-Oberflakky with the provinces of North Brabant. This bridge was opened in his 1964, traffic is increasing year by year and it is very intensively used. About 66,000 vehicles use the bridge every day, over a kilometer long.
From August 7th to September 1st, the Heinenoord Tunnel near Barendrecht will be closed in both directions on the same highway. The tunnel will be refurbished in stages and is expected to be completed in 2024.
