Max Verstappen wins Spanish GP

Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday, making it his third consecutive victory. Another comfortable victory for the reigning champions. Nick de Vries finished 14th. The lead over leader Verstappen is now 53 points.

Verstappen started the race from pole position after qualifying on Saturday. It was his fourth start of the season, and his first start at the Spanish Grand Prix. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz started second. AlphaTauri’s Nick de Vries started 14th.

Verstappen kept Sainz at bay in the first corner of the race, even though Sainz got out of the mark earlier. It was the only moment during the race when he came close to the 25-year-old Verstappen. Verstappen even managed to pit twice, but he still had a comfortable lead when he came out of the pits.

Despite taking the lead, Verstappen complained that the hard tires “slipped everywhere” and lacked grip. Verstappen pitted to change tires and finished the race 22 seconds ahead of his closest challenger Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen was shown the black flag in terms of track limits for making too many line overs a few laps before the end of the race. Verstappen was told by the Red Bull team not to risk it in the final few laps and to stay between the lines. Verstappen also scored bonus points for the fastest lap of the race.

Nick de Vries maintained the same position he had at the start. The 28-year-old also made two pit stops and finally switched to soft tyres, which saw him return from 17th to 14th.

Verstappen is now 53 points ahead of his closest challenger, fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. Perez finished today’s race in fourth behind Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
