Netherlands to raise minimum wage – Northern Times

The Dutch government has announced that it will increase the minimum wage by more than 3%. This is as low-wage workers continue to grapple with the effects of rising costs of food, fuel and housing.

The measure is part of a support package to help households cope with rising inflation and energy prices. announced in regulations from the country’s Department of Social Affairs and Employment on Wednesday.

From 1 July 2023, the statutory gross minimum wage for full-time workers aged 21 and over will be:

Monthly: €1,995, up from €1,934.40
Weekly: €460.40, up from €446.40
Daily: €92.08, up from €89.28

The Netherlands will introduce a legal minimum wage from 1 January 2024, the ministry said. The hourly minimum wage is based on a normal working week of 36 hours.

Last year, the government-affiliated Office for Economic Policy Analysis calculated that up to one million Dutch people were at risk of falling into poverty as a result of high prices.

The 3.13% increase applied to the minimum wage is not reflected in other benefits and assistance such as AOW and Social Assistance. As a result, raising the minimum wage will not affect the income of social assistance recipients and retirees.
