New RUG Space Coming to Grote Markt
An agreement between the University of Groningen and a property developer will bring a new teaching and research facility to OOG TV, the city’s central square. report.
The proposed location is in a vacant lot at the corner of Grote Markt and Oude Ebbingestraat, on the second floor of the former V&D building, Groot Handelshuis. The RUG consists of four so-called ‘multidisciplinary schools’ (in the fields of health, energy, sustainable development and artificial intelligence), the network organization North University, the Young Academy, the Teaching Academy, the European University Partnership Enlight, the site impact organization.
The new space will provide an avenue for innovative teaching and research, according to the broadcaster.
In addition to housing schools, research facilities and outreach organizations, the university will host conferences, public events and public gatherings at the new venue. Due to its prime location, such events are not only much more accessible to students and researchers, but also convenient for the university’s many visitors.
RUG hires designer and architecture firm Studio Groen+Schild to improve the site. It’s not clear when the renovations will begin or when the university plans to move into the new space.
