Peter R. de Vries Murder Trial Must Retake After Judge Leaves NL

The trial of two men charged with killing TV crime reporter Peter R. de Vries was delayed after new witnesses came forward, so a second trial will have to take place. decided by an Amsterdam court.

Two men, Delano G and Kamil E, were facing life in prison, but the case was reopened just before sentencing this summer. new witness made a statement. One of the three judges then moved out of the country during the delay.

The court ruled that a retrial was necessary due to a change in the lineup of judges.

The prosecution and Delano G’s lawyers did not want a new trial, but Kamil E’s defense insisted on it. “A judge deciding on his involvement must be aware of all evidence and statements,” said Ayse Chimen. “And that means the case must be tried again.”

De Vries was shot five times in July 2021 while walking through Amsterdam’s Leidsedwarsstraat to his car as he exited a television studio. G and E were arrested shortly thereafter.
