PSV defeated FC Twente in the Eredivisie on Sunday. Goals from Fabio Silva, Luke de Jong and Xavi Simmons gave the Ruud van Nistelrooy-led side a comfortable 3–1 win for him. Virgil Michillian scored his only goal for FC Twente.
Fabio Silva made his first start for the Eindhoven side as a left winger. Ibrahim Sangale is back from injury after missing the games against FC Utrecht and Sevilla. FC Twente welcomed two of their most important players with the return of team captains Robin Propper and Ramiz Zeruki to the squad.
PSV took the lead after eight minutes of play. Johan Bakayoko’s superb cross was followed by Silva’s header from close range.
Virgil Michijan had a chance to equalize moments later after a nice deep ball from left-back Jis Soumal found a fast winger behind the defense, but his try was met by keeper Walter Benitez. was straight to
The winger scored two minutes after the restart. No one touched the winger’s cross, and it was a lot of luck that he ran past Benitez into the corner.
PSV regained the lead 10 minutes later with a cross-skill from Bakayoko. Joey Veerman’s corner kick was directed from the box to the winger and his cross was perfect again, giving Luuk de Jong a tap-in. De Jong scored his 100th goal for PSV in the Eredivisie, placing him sixth in the all-time top scorers.
FC Twente denied the penalty minutes after Michijan’s cross hit Bakayoko’s arm. The referee ruled that it was not a deliberate handball and therefore not a penalty.
Xabi Simmons put the game to sleep in the 74th minute after a pass from Sangalle was nearly controlled by the youngster before stabbing the ball past Lars Annasthor in Twente’s goal.
PSV are six points behind leaders Feyenoord and three points behind second-placed Ajax. FC Twente are now six points behind fifth-placed Eindhovenalen.
