Record number of new vacancies in the Netherlands last year
Last year, there were 1.6 million new job openings in the Netherlands, the highest number since the war. Dutch statistics CBS began tracking this figure in 1997. CBS said Monday that “recruit demand has been particularly high in business economics and management positions.”
There will be 1.6 million new job openings in 2022, 143,000 more than in 2021. Many vacancies have been filled or withdrawn. The Netherlands had 437,000 vacancies by the end of 2022, compared to 392,000 at the end of 2021.
Increased vacancies were seen across all occupational groups. The business economics and management professions had the highest demand for new talent. Last year, he had 291,000 vacancies in these occupations, an increase of 51,000 from the previous year. New vacancies in trade and service professions, especially in the hospitality industry, also surged.
The Dutch labor market has been tight for some time and there are more vacancies than there are unemployed to fill. Unemployment rises in the country in May slightly increased to 3.5% of the workforce.
