Robber who escaped Belgian prison arrested in Guinea
A Belgian armed robber who escaped from a Brussels prison was arrested in Conakry, the West African capital of Guinea, police said on Friday.
Ibrahim Akhlal, 27, escaped from Saint-Gilles prison in the Belgian capital in 2020. He spent a total of 21 years in prison for a string of robberies.
He is also currently wanted by Dutch authorities after being accused of taking part in an epic €14 million gold heist in Amsterdam in May 2021.
He was arrested by Guinean police on the night of December 16 while heading to a nightclub, according to a Belgian police statement.
The Belgian ministry and its ambassador to Conakry are working with Guinea “to proceed with the extradition of the former fugitive as soon as possible,” the statement said.
