Swimming warning for these Groningen spots – The Northern Times
A warning against swimming has been issued for Groningen’s Kardingerplas and a section of the Paterswoldsemeer by water safety authorities.
The warning comes after authorities found a presence of blue-green algae which may cause skin irritation and gastrointestinal issues. Authorities have issued an orange warning, which means that one may swim at their own risk after assessing whether the issue could affect their health. Young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised people are advised to seek an alternative swimming location.
The swimming spots in Groningen that currently come with health warnings are the Kardingerplas (close to the Kardinge recreation park in Groningen) and a south-east section of the Paterswoldsemeer that has a small sandy beach and a sunbathing area. All other swimming spots in Groningen are currently safe to swim in, according to authorities. For a full list of swimming spots and the respective health advice for each location, visit the Zwemwater website.
