Alleged gang leader Ridouan Taghi, who is on trial for his role in a series of murders, will defend himself for now, prison attorney Thomas van der Horst has confirmed.

Mr Taghi has written to the court that is currently hearing the Marengo gangland murders and said he would take charge of his defense following the case. arrest of his trial attorney Inez Weskey. She is suspected of leaking information on Tagi’s behalf, and she is currently in solitary confinement in prison.

Mr Taghi said he will receive some legal help and is looking for a new lawyer. Until then he will defend himself. Tagi faces life in prison for ordering a series of murders.

Wesky is just one of several lawyers who have represented him in the proceedings, which began in 2019.

Taghi was one of 17 suspects in the Marengo case and was the Netherlands’ most wanted man for several years. He is charged with ordering the murders of six people between 2015 and 2017 in the so-called “Moclo Mafia” drug war.

It is not yet clear what impact Wesky’s arrest will have on the trial. The lawsuit is now closed and a verdict is due to be announced on October 20, but legal experts told The Telegraaf that it may no longer be achievable.
