The Hague’s Mayor receives Ukrainian award
The Hague’s mayor, Jan van Zanen has received a high Ukrainian award in gratitude for the way in which the city has received their war refugees.
The Presidential Award was presented to the mayor by the new Ukrainian ambassador Oleksandr Karasevych. He has been ambassador in the Netherlands for a month now, succeeding Maksym Kononenko who is now ambassador in Estonia.
For almost 1.5 years, Ukrainian citizens who had to flee have found a safe place in The Hague. Residents have opened their homes, entrepreneurs offered jobs and city employees supported where necessary. The Presidential award once again underlines the appreciation that exists for this. As far as I’m concerned, the award is therefore for all of us (residents, entrepreneurs and employees).
