This year, with the ongoing Covid pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, and the welcomed but sometimes overwhelming challenge of returning to our normal pace of life, years have all come to an end. It felt like one.
This is reflected in our top 15 articles published this year. Ukrainian refugees arriving in Groningen, protesting the war, and how to help them all made the top 15.
Neither rising energy prices, and initiatives to make them more affordable (and protests to ensure that), nor Covid policy changes and access to a vaccine were important.
For all expats living in the North, news on public transport, ongoing earthquake coverage in the region, ongoing struggles for fair housing for foreign students, access to Dutch language courses always touched me.
Here at The Northern Times, too, this year has been a year of new developments. We’ve expanded our staff, brought in some talented and hard-working interns and columnists, changed our Instagram style, and added a Ukrainian translation (thanks to a small group of enthusiastic Ukrainian speakers). volunteer).
