Turkish state media say Erdogan again tops vote list in Netherlands

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was re-elected on Sunday, turned out to be the most popular candidate among Dutch voters in the second round of the presidential election. He won 70.5% of the vote, compared with 29.6% for his rival Kemal Kirikdaroglu, according to Turkish state news agency Anadolu.

About 146,000 votes were cast in the Netherlands, of which 740 were declared invalid. Turnout was 53.2%, higher than in the first round, when 50.4% of eligible voters turned out to vote.

In the first round of voting, those who voted in the Netherlands had a 68.4 percent chance of choosing Erdogan. The news agency reported earlier that Kirikdaroglu won 28.8 percent of the first round of voting in the Netherlands.

Around 1.8 million votes were cast outside Turkey, with Erdogan accounting for 59.4 percent, according to Anadolu news agency. The incumbent president also won more votes than Mr. Kirikdaroglu in many countries close to the Netherlands, including Germany, Belgium and France. The largest group of Turkish voters living abroad lives in Germany.

Kirikdaroglu was also a preferred candidate in the US, UK, Spain, Italy and other countries.
