Candidate Profile A new Policy Officer should be flexible and a player on his team. He/she has a university degree (MA or MSc) and relevant experience in economics and trade policy/promotion. Candidates should be able to translate general Australian and Dutch economic policies into concrete actions by the Dutch diplomatic network in Australia and write timely reports relevant to Dutch policy makers. . Main Duties/Tasks Analysis and reporting on sustainable economy and trade-related policies and developments (e.g. related to Dutch-Australian economic cooperation and/or impacting Dutch business opportunities in the Australian market) ); develop policies in promising areas of bilateral economic relations between Australia and the Netherlands and contribute to the development of Dutch economic diplomacy in Australia. Identify opportunities for individual Dutch companies based on general knowledge of Australian development and the strength of the Dutch economy. We understand the needs of Dutch entrepreneurs, reach out to them, support their entry into the Australian market and help solve market access issues. Representing the Netherlands in meetings with Australian government ministries and agencies, supreme bodies, knowledge bodies and the European Union. Represent the Dutch mission in Australia in meetings with their Dutch counterparts. Organize public events to promote Dutch policy and business. Prepare briefing notes and stamped speeches on economic issues for Ambassadors and Consuls General. Working Environment The Kingdom of the Netherlands is represented in Australia through the Embassy in Canberra, the Consulate General in Sydney and her five Honorary Consuls in the State Capital. The Netherlands’ main focus areas in Australia are political and security cooperation, trade and investment facilitation, and consular services to Dutch citizens. The Embassy in Canberra and the Consulate General in Sydney work together as one team and coordinate on a daily basis. The Economics Officer will be based in Sydney. The Consulate General of the Netherlands team consists of the Consul General and her nine staff, most of whom are locally hired. The Consulate General has an office at Bondi Junction (Westfield Tower 2). The Economic Officer will be an integral part of the Dutch diplomatic and economic team, staffed in both Canberra and Sydney. He/she reports to Consul General Sydney, head of the economic team. Some of the work is done in the evenings, as the team returns to The Hague regularly. Ambassadors are an integral part of Dutch economic activity in Australia and honorary consuls help identify trade and investment opportunities in the states where they are located. Dutch.
