‘Code Yellow’ in northern provinces as thunderstorms and hail loom – The Northern Times

Brace yourselves, northerners! The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a ‘code yellow’ weather warning for Tuesday morning and the early afternoon, as the region faces the possibility of thunderstorms and hail.

According to the KNMI, heavy showers are expected to sweep across the area, prompting concerns for public safety and potential disruptions to daily activities. The warning covers a substantial part of the country, including Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland where the alert will be in effect from 8:00 a.m. in the morning until 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

As the day progresses, traffic and outdoor events may be impacted by the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Authorities advise residents and visitors in the region to stay vigilant, monitor weather updates, and exercise caution while commuting or engaging in outdoor pursuits during this weather event.

This also includes picking up any loose items outside, closing windows and doors, and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities.

The KNMI notes that the showers are likely to exit the provinces via the eastern border by mid-afternoon. Nonetheless, residents are urged to remain cautious until the warning period concludes.
