Netherlands arrests two Syrians over alleged ‘terrorist’ plot
The Netherlands has arrested two Syrian brothers, aged 20 and 22, in the southeast of the country on suspicion of preparing a “terrorist” act, prosecutors said Thursday.
An investigation was launched this week after an alert from Dutch intelligence services, they said.
Police arrested both men on Wednesday night in the southeastern town of Stein, near the Belgian border, on suspicion of preparing a terrorist offense, prosecutors added.
“No weapons or explosives were found during the arrest and search of the suspect’s home,” they said, without elaborating on the alleged conspiracy.
A spokesman for the public prosecutor, quoted by Dutch public TV NOS, said the investigation would focus on “what the suspect was thinking”.
No further arrests were expected, the NOS reported.
