Amsterdam launches ‘stay away’ campaign targeting violent Britons

Amsterdam launched a campaign on Tuesday to discourage tourists from planning drug- and alcohol-fueled parties. The target is a young British man.

The Dutch capital has long tried to curb violent behavior such as stag parties. Especially near the famous red-light districts where sex workers work.

Dubbed ‘Stay Away’, the new campaign will give special warnings to people searching for Amsterdam holidays online.

In a statement, Amsterdam City Council said: “The campaign has been launched in the UK and is aimed at men between the ages of 18 and 35.

“This online discouragement campaign is aimed at unsolicited tourists who want to visit Amsterdam and ‘runaway’, with all the ensuing consequences. ”

Next year it will be expanded to “potentially nuisance visitors from the Netherlands and other EU countries”, it said.

Keywords like ‘stag party amsterdam’ or ‘pub crawl amsterdam’ will trigger warning ads.

Advertisements display “risks and consequences of antisocial behavior and excessive drug and alcohol abuse,” including fines, arrests, criminal records, hospitalizations, and health issues.

Amsterdam recently announced a ban on cannabis smoking in red-light districts, further restrictions on alcohol consumption and early closure of cafes, bars and sex clubs.

Authorities are also considering moving sex workers to large “erotic centers” on the outskirts of the city.
