Hague federal government urges ex-minister Ali Slob to explore possibilities for new federation

On Tuesday, July 3, Mayor Jan van Zanen announced that the 13 party chairmen of The Hague City Council have decided to appoint former minister Ali Slob to explore the possibility of a new majority coalition. . The Hague City Council is calling for a transparent process with public reporting to the City Council.

At the Gemente Council meeting on 29 June, the VVD party withdrew its support for the coalition government. Aldermen Ann Mulder and Kavita Parvdayal resigned with immediate effect. As a result, the coalition, which consisted of VVD plus D66, GroenLinks, PvdA and CDA, lost its majority.

VVD’s decision was made after a discussion based on the advice of Bruno Bruins. As an independent arbitrator, the Bruins discussed the outcome of the court acquittals of Demos and Gernaui with all parties to Gemente. Topics discussed included relations and trust between political parties, differences in party funding (unlevel playing field and transparency), and composition of party leadership.

Ary Thlob served as a Member of Parliament for 15 years and served as Minister of Primary and Secondary Education and Media in Rutte III’s Cabinet from 2017 to 2022.
