Koczuk left Feyenoord for Benfica.Transfer fee around €30 million

Benfica announced the signing of Orkun Kokçu on their social media accounts and released a photo of the Dutch-Turkish footballer in the new club’s shirt. Portugal’s top club has confirmed the signing of the midfielder, who is reportedly on a five-year deal. He helped Feyenoord win the championship this season.

The 22-year-old had already announced that he would leave Feyenoord if a great overseas club presented him with an acceptable offer. After speaking with former team-mate Fredrik Aurnes, who moved from Feyenoord to the Portuguese champions last year, he is keen on Benfica. Roger Schmidt is the coach of Benfica. The German player previously worked for PSV.

Feyenoord had asked for at least €30m for Kokchu. Bonuses can significantly increase that amount. This makes the midfielder the most expensive purchase in Benfica’s club history.

Kokçu wanted to complete his move quickly as he has to report to the Turkish national team for next week’s European Championship qualifiers against Latvia and Wales. As you can see from the images posted on social media, he was greeted by a large number of Portuguese journalists upon his arrival at the Lisbon airport.

Haarlem-born Kocz moved from FC Groningen’s academy to Feyenoord’s academy in 2014. He made his debut for the Rotterdam team in 2018. Last season, Kokchu was named Feyenoord captain and won his first national title since 2017. Kokicz made 173 appearances for the club and scored 32 goals.

Kokchu was scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Saturday.
